Summer routine for curly and afro hair
Hello everyone and welcome back!
Today I leave you with some tips to keep your curls in splendid shape during the hot, and often humid, summer months.
Make way for hydrating products
Summer is the season in which it is most important to keep hair elastic and soft and the first fundamental step is always that: MOISTURIZE.
The protagonists of your routine during this period must be leave-in , shampoo and intensive hydration masks .
In particular, as regards the daily hydration routine, I recommend carrying it out in two steps:
- Spray water with one spray or use a moisturizing spray .
- Moisturizing leave-in lotion .
Each step must be followed by good hair manipulation.
Seal in hydration
Always follow the moisturizing phase mentioned above with the sealing phase by applying an oil and then a butter or rich cream . This will allow your hair to maintain hydration and will naturally protect it from external agents, especially the sun.
If you have LOW POROSITY, prefer light components such as grape seed oil, almond oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter.
If you have HIGH POROSITY opt for medium/heavy components such as avocado oil, coconut oil, castor oil, shea butter.
Coconut oil can be found in both lists because, being penetrating, it can act even if the cuticles are lowered.
Those with MEDIUM POROSITY can opt for what they deem most appropriate.
If you are in difficulty choosing products you can rely on POROSITY BOX which contain the complete routine.
If you don't know your porosity, read this article and take the test.
Please note that oils and butters should ALWAYS be applied after the hydrating component in the hydration and sealing routine.
Management of urchins at the seaside and in the swimming pool:
- Keep one handy spray of water or a moisturizing leave-in spray to spray every now and then on the lengths (and on the scalp if you have braided/collected hair and exposed skin).
- Wear a turban or a high band that keeps your head protected from the sun, wind and sand. This way, if you don't take a bath, you won't be able to wash your hair.
- If you love immersing yourself in water, keep your hair clean by using one at the end of the day sulfate-free shampoo to once a week and the co-wash or one cleansing cream highly delicate for all other washes.
- In both cases, always apply an intensive hydration mask afterwards, leaving it on for at least 3 minutes.
- In the shower and with the mask on, use a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair well.
- Whenever possible, precede washing with a pre-shampoo compress. You can use the same one natural oil with which you seal in hydration.
Remember that:
- If you go into the water with your hair already "filled" with hydrating leave-in and sealed with an oil , much less pool and sea water will be absorbed.
- Salt water tends to make natural curls even thicker and more elastic and a good soak will help your hair reveal your texture even more. Be careful though, if the salt remains for a long time it can cause dryness, so get out of the water and rinse your head under the fresh water shower to reduce the concentration of salt water in your hair.
- If you do a good LOC method before going to the beach or swimming pool you can avoid the pre-shampoo pack before washing your hair.
Finally, two important reminders:
- Sleep with satin cap or pillowcase ;
- Use a cotton cloth to dry your hair.
If you have taken note of everything, all I have to do is wish you a very good summer!
A hug,
TO.
